Synopsis:

The Villa of the Mysteries was a Roman suburban villa located on the outskirts of the ancient city of Pompeii. Like the rest of the city, it was both destroyed and preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The villa is most noted for the colorful fresco in the triclinium, thought to depict some form of religious initiation.
