Synopsis:
The House of the Faun was a large residence, within the Roman city of Pompeii, simultaneously destroyed and preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The name of the house is derived from a sculpture of a dancing faun found in the atrium of the house. The house is especially noted for its large garden and fine mosaics, especially one depicting the Battle of Issus.
