Synopsis:

The Campidoglio is a noted plaza in the heart of Rome. It is located next to the ancient Roman Forum, and held great significance to the ancient Romans who considered it to be the caput mundi, or center of the world. The design for the piazza of the Campidoglio was begun by Michelangelo in 1538. The piazza would become one of the world's most celebrated urban spaces, unique for its location and form. However, the Capidoglio would not be finished until 1564.
